Villanelles – A Villainous Form

One of my university modules is Form In Poetry and for this, we have had to write Villainelles… and no, I haven’t spelled that wrong; this particular form is hideous.

I found an article by Conrad Geller saying that Villanelles are easy and fun to write. To which I reply with a simple retort; Bollocks.

Villanelles are villainous to say the very least. They drive the writer into a psychotic episode that results in your room being repainted with black or blue ink, a smashed laptop, dying slowly in a corner and torn up papers floating through the air like confetti.

Luckily we were allowed to fuck about with the form which did allow me to keep some semblance of sanity.

Its on the tumblr blog (tenmilesfromhome.tumblr.com) titled, C’est La Vie.

Stay tuned for more rants in the future.

After researching this ‘villanelle’ form I can certainly emphasise with your position of having to write one! Why someone would (through their own will) bound themselves to such a strict and seemingly unecessary form feels a little crazy to me! Haha. :)

Aw, this was an extremely good post. Finding the time and actual effort to create a superb article… but what can I say… I procrastinate a whole lot and don’t manage to get anything done.
